Do buy here pay here lots check your credit?

Some do and some don't, but it almost never means what people expect. A buy-here-pay-here lot that pulls your credit isn't using it to approve or refuse you — there's no lender to satisfy. It's looking at what else you're paying every month and whether anything is currently in default.

That distinction matters. A low score doesn't stop a deal at these lots, and neither does a bankruptcy that's discharged or a repossession that's settled. What stops a deal is an open repossession, because that's a live debt with somebody still trying to collect it, and it tells the lot the last person who financed you didn't get paid.

Plenty of lots skip the pull entirely and go straight to income. If a lot never asks for your social security number, that's usually why.

What every one of them checks instead is the same short list: proof of income for the last thirty days, how long you've been at your job, a valid driver's licence, proof of your address, references, and your down payment. Time on the job is the one that decides most applications.
